Amid Humanitarian Catastrophe

Sudan’s internal conflict between the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the Sudanese army continues to escalate, now with claims that Egypt has intervened militarily. In October 2024, RSF leader Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo accused Egypt of launching airstrikes against RSF positions in the Jebel Moya region. While Egypt has denied these allegations, urging the international community to investigate the evidence, the war’s toll on Sudanese civilians worsens by the day.
Since the conflict erupted in April 2023, nearly 10 million people have been displaced, leading to a humanitarian crisis that is largely ignored by the international community. Food shortages, displacement, and widespread violence have devastated the population. Activists have reported a sharp increase in civilian casualties, particularly as airstrikes intensify.
This conflict also reflects the long-standing and complex relationship between Sudan and Egypt. Historically, the two countries have been entangled in geopolitical struggles that now further complicate efforts for peace. Egypt’s economic and security interests, including the stability of its southern border and the Suez Canal’s trade routes, add another dimension to the crisis.
The real victims, however, are the millions of displaced Sudanese who face famine, violence, and uncertainty. With limited international intervention and ongoing tensions, the situation in Sudan remains dire. Immediate global action is necessary to prevent further loss of life and to push for peace and stability in the region.
